I hate computers!

My mother's computer is driving me insane! Ever since we replaced the router, it needs to be restarted to access the internet. Then, when she tried to open her browser, the graphics suddenly went to 4-bit, with no way of changing it. I restarted the computer--nothing changed. I turned off the computer, disconnected the monitor from the hard drive, plugged it back in, and restarted the computer--it works.

To all techies out there: HELP ME!!! My mother's pissed off at me because the computer keeps doing this, she's blaming the router, she doesn't know much about computers, my father--who used to work in a computer science department at a college--is of no help. I'm the only person who remotely understands how to use XP and I don't know how to fix this or what to say to them.

Does anybody know what I can say and how to keep this from happening? Anyone?!
