Christmas

danlansdowne: (Christmas)
Not too bad a day. Quiet, didn't do much.

Got out of bed around 11 and we did the Christmas thing. I got the following gifts:

- 40 dollar bookstore gift card from my half-sister (I've already used 20 of it to get two Garfield comic strip collections from when he was still funny)
- 50 dollar bookstore gift card from my father (already planning on a couple things)
- A set of silver coins with lynxes engraved on them my mother
- Gift pack of scratch and win lottery tickets, also from my mother (won three dollars--yay!)
- Both my mother and I got satellite radios from my father

Not a bad collection this year. My mother and I don't really need the satellite radios (or want them, to be brutally honest) so we're thinking of trading them in to get a garage door opener for our half of the garage. It's quite annoying to have to get out of the car to open/close the door.

I got six cards so far this year, one from my parents, one from my half-sister, and four from LJ friends (one of which was in one of my classes). Still waiting for a couple to arrive, but no rush.

Spent the day watching TV mostly. A couple episodes of M*A*S*H (none of them holiday ones, surprisingly), bits and pieces of "A Christmas Story" (a station was playing it non-stop for 24 hours straight), most of "A Child's Christmas in Wales", and bits of "Sense and Sensibility". Also saw a holiday show featuring Maxine, the crabby old lady from the Hallmark cards. It was their version of "A Christmas Carol"--she stayed crabby at the end, but granted the world one day of nice on Christmas.

We just got back from seeing "King Kong" at the movie theatre. Some bits were a bit farfetched (one guy managed to climb a rope with a girl attached single-handed) but it was pretty good. Computer graphics were great, I must say! In the scene in the harbour, I think the ship heading for Skull Island was docked next to the mock-up of the Titanic they used for the movie a few years ago. One word of advice: if you didn't like the orcs in Lord of the Rings, don't see this movie!!! Peter Jackson has a special technique for the grotesque.

Still got a bit of indigestion from over-indulging at dinner, so I think I'm going to call it a night before long. Happy winter-themed, over-commercialized, end-of-year holiday!
