"Criminals on community sentences could be forced to help prepare the Olympic Park in London, it has been announced.

Home Secretary Charles Clarke said the number of hours of unpaid work carried out by offenders will double to 10 million by 2011, the year before the international sporting tournament takes places in Stratford, east London."

This is a good way to save money--they've got loads of people they need to do stuff and a huge place that needs dozens of pairs of hands, so let's save time.

I may sound conservative, but I'd kinda like to see the return of 'chain gangs' or something similar. Get work done for practically free, and get a bunch of people slacking off on taxpayers' money to actually contribute to society--the ones that are fit to work, at least; don't want Death Row inmates or serial molesters slipping away.

I can think of other people that should be assigned community service, but I won't go into that here.
