Performance 22,753
Jul. 5th, 2007 05:46 pmAs you can guess from the title (I hope!), I'm in London and I've been to see The Mousetrap. But first, the whole story.
This morning, after breakfast, I took a few snaps of the exterior of York Minster. Turned out quite well, especially one where I was aiming just below the sun. Since our train was at 12:30 and check-out was at 11, we had some time to spare, so after walking through part of the town, we went off to the station, getting some footage of the old city walls along the way. While at York station, we also got some footage of trains arriving and departing. I think Union Station in Toronto is only that busy in rush hour! There had to have been at least a dozen trains between when we arrived and when we left.
On the train was quite nice. Amenities included priority access in the restaurant car (steak and chips for me), free drinks at our seats (with a table between them), and electrical outlets and wireless internet. While in motion, yet! VIA Rail's got it, but I've yet to sample it. I must say, surfing the web at 125 mph is quite fascinating.
After about two hours, our arrival at London Kings Cross...
( Oh, Heather... )
We checked into our hotel, not too far from London, to discover two things: 1) that it would rate two stars on a good day (out of five), and 2) that because they were out of double rooms, they gave us a single. There was NO WAY I was going to share a bed with my father, and there was no way he was going to walk up and down the narrow aisles, use a bathroom with only an aging shower stall, or ride in the twin bed-sized lift, so we found accommodations elsewhere.
And my word, what did we find! The Trafalgar Hilton, with windows facing Trafalgar Square and Canada House (oddly enough XD), two double beds, internet (corded and for money, but I don't mind), laundry services, and free breakfast. Even better, Trafalgar Square is hosting the opening ceremony of the Tour de France tomorrow evening (why in England I'll never know). Not to mention, only a ten-minute walk from tonight's entertainment, the 22,753rd performance of The Mousetrap. Quite a nice little theatre, though the bathrooms are a bit antiquated, with a two-tap sink smaller than my computer. The performance was excellent, of course, but, in keeping with the show's tradition, I cannot reveal the ending.
Where would the fun be in that? ;)
