At least it's a dry heat!

The University of Waterloo is going to be opening a new campus in a year or two...In Dubai! They want to open a temporary campus in 2009, then move some of the programs to Abu Dhabi later on.

The Canadian papers have been pretty mum about this; only the local paper has printed an article about it, and that was mainly about the ethical debate over opening a campus in a country whose human rights record is only stellar when compared to its neighbours. You'd think something like this would be shouted from the rooftops, even with the debate going on.

Zimbabwean soldiers have been rioting after not being paid for days. This on top of 500+ cholera deaths, thousands more sick from cholera and anthrax, starvation, lack of water, and government uncertainty.

Listen to the bells, Mugabe--they toll for thee! And about damned time, too. He should have gone to the old rebel's home a decade and a half ago and retired with a shred of dignity.
