Yes, I do believe in it. It doesn't work in every situation, but it certainly makes life easier. Two partners staying exclusive means no worries about spreading diseases, no worries about alimony or child support/custody, and no jealousy.
Even at the dating level, I can't see myself going out with several girls/women at once just for laughs. I see dating as the means to an end. In my ideal world, I'd meet someone, go out with her for a while, move in with her, and get married in a nice linear pattern. No need for excess baggage along the way. Alas, it probably won't work out quite the way I want it to.
