Another ice cream cone in the dirt
Sep. 24th, 2009 09:35 pmI've had what I thought was a blood blister on my left ring finger for a few weeks now, and this week it finally broke to the surface. However, when I was pulling some of the dead skin away, it started bleeding. And bleeding. After about a day and a half (still bleeding), we called the hotline for my doctor's after-hours clinic--who suggested I go to the emergency room in case it had to be sutured.
After waiting an hour and a quarter in our ER (sadly a good wait time these days), I got in and they put an extra-tight bandage on it--two strips on the spot, gauze around it, a thin layer of foam pad around it, and a gauze sleeve over the whole finger. They figure it's just a 'superficial blood vessel', and the bandage is on my finger until Saturday morning. It's going to be fun to type, eat or wash my hands with it, but we got some rubber finger covers to keep it mostly dry. They're like condoms but without the happy ending. I just hope I can last a day without it going numb.
Still plodding along with my internship. I need to finish the first report for it this weekend and get that sent off. At least I'll be able to finish my internship before my program is terminated.
