According to popular history...
Apr. 9th, 2010 08:12 pm93 years ago today, Canada became a 'nation' rather than just a part of the Empire with greater autonomy. For the first time in history, Canadians fought and won a battle on their own rather than with another country's army. And the Allied world watched in shock as the Canadians took a hill that no other country could. Because of the near insanity with which the Canadian Corps conducted their fighting, the Germans called US Stormtroopers!
This year's celebration is especially poignant as it's the first one celebrated since the death of the last Canadian to serve in the army during the First World War. We're celebrating alone now.
