Good day today
Aug. 21st, 2010 07:16 pmWhile doing our usual shopping, we went to a pet store and visited the new resident cat, a stray that we rescued. When he started visiting our yard, he was grungy, covered in scabs, and one eye was so infected he couldn't open it--earning him the nickname "One-Eyed Jack." He's still Jack, but both eyes are in use again and he's all cleaned up and scab-free. He's white and brown tabby, with a tabby tail that has a little white ring around it near the tip. One of the employees got him from the cat rescue agency we got him to, and he's going to be a regular visitor to the store.
This week was also quite momentous for me because I finally inherited my mother's rabble-rousing genes: I got my first letter printed in a newspaper! A woman wrote in about our area's light rail proposal, asking whether reinstating streetcars in the area wasn't a step backward. I couldn't let that one go without a rebuttal, particularly as light rail services exist in countless cities around the world and are being reintroduced in even more--and are a much better way to move people along a single heavily-trafficked corridor than buses ever will be, no matter how many you run.
Here it is for anyone interested in reading.
