Jan. 4th, 2006 12:11 amI've had a cold for the last couple of days. My right eye is constantly leaking and I've been blowing my now-red nose almost every minute. My colds have been much worse in the past, though; usually I spend a day throwing up because I've been swallowing so much air (and I'm sure you enjoyed hearing that). At least I don't have to make an effort to rest--I don't do anything as it is!
Went to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire yesterday. The CGI and filming were great; I liked seeing Draco being turned into a ferret. It was strange seeing David Tennant as the baddie, since he's the new Doctor in Doctor Who. There were a couple things I didn't really like. Snape hardly showed up--he must have had only four lines in the whole movie. I think they could have done more with the Potions class scene--I would have liked to have seen him whack Harry and Ron's heads together instead of just pushing them down.
I think the first half hour of the movie got us through the first half of the book. It's too bad the book was so long--everything was so rushed. They jumped from scene to scene with little transition. I'm wondering what they're going to cut in the next movie; there's so much to work with. It would be nice to see the three main actors keep their parts for the whole series, but I'm more interested in who they're going to cast as Luna Lovegood (psst, Harry, forget Cho Chang and the others--if you both survive to the end of book seven, go for Luna!)
Dropped off a resume at Staples office supply store. Hopefully I'll actually get this job--I need money if I'm going to be going to Atlanta this August for Dragon*con! And I'm getting tired of having to work for my parents and not hearing back from places I apply to. I've applied to one place three times and haven't heard back. I'll be selling a couple of old textbooks, so that will be seventy dollars coming in. More money would be nicer, but I'll take what I can get.
So, we've got a national election coming up in 20 days. I'm starting to consider choosing the guy I vote for at random. The Liberals (US read Democrats) have screwed up royally in the last decade or so they've been in, and they've turned the armed forces into a marching/floating/sometimes flying joke. I'd vote for the Conservatives (US read Republicans) it weren't for Stephen Harper--I have no arguments with his beliefs, a couple of which (the less controversial ones) I share, but he doesn't seem to have leadership skills. Even Joe Clark (the guy who was voted out after just over a year) would be a better option. The NDP (US read Libertarian, Communist, etc) don't have a chance because nobody will vote for them thinking they'll be wasting their votes. Plus the thought of the extreme left-wingers being in charge can be kind of frightening. The Greens are reasonably safe, but don't have a chance of being voted for anywhere in Canada except for British Columbia where all the environmentalists are. So I either vote for crooks or throw my vote away. Either way I can't win.
