The details emerge

The first details of the plan emerge, and I'm quite optimistic. Condominiums, a luxury hotel, a conference centre, and possible expansion into the Preston Springs building with a skywalk. I'm a bit concerned about the eighteen-storey height of the proposed building, but that could change between now and when the formal plans are presented. Heck, a retail development proposed at the Kitchener-Cambridge boundary in the winter is just being presented in its final shape today. Fortunately they had the presence of mind to have the tall section set back from the street, which will have a three-story facade. This will merge much better with the rest of the buildings in Preston, which are only two to four-storeys high.
The mayor also announced that University of Waterloo wants to expand its School of Architecture in Galt, a big factor in Galt's still-in-progress regeneration. He discussed a number of loft conversion projects at two factories and a hotel in Galt, also good signs, and a new professional theatre that should be going into Galt on the west side of the Grand River in a few years. Plus, more information about another loft and retail conversion of a 150-year-old factory building will be coming within a month.
This is a great opportunity for someone like me, who wants to go into the business side of arts operations. There's a lot of development coming, which means more arts projects in tow!
