More orchid geekery
Apr. 19th, 2009 12:33 amHad to do a bit more trimming on one of my orchids today. Had a leaf turning brown that I wanted to get off the plant in case it was a disease. As long as it's trimmed off, it won't spread to the rest of the plant. That orchid looks rather bare now, but it has a lot of root growth. Should probably separate the two root-bearing stalks and re-pot them in new bark and clean pots. The other orchid just sits there, not visibly growing or improving. Neither of them has flowered since I got them.
The good thing about growing Cattleyas is that they grow on the hot, dry side of South America and like full sun--meaning that my room is perfect for them! I should probably move them into another room for a while, though; maybe a change of light and temperature will make them think a new flowering season has started.
I sure jumped into growing houseplants head-first, didn't I? From growing nothing to growing the most temperamental plants on the planet!
