You're never more entertaining than when you stop by asking to borrow a cup of oil:

Obama says Canada a ‘partner’ in oil dependency plans

U.S. President Barack Obama called Wednesday for a one-third reduction in overseas American oil imports by 2025 in a speech in which he described Canada as one of several energy partners of his country...

...In his speech, the president said he knows the country will still have to bring in foreign oil, giving a nod to America’s friends in the Western Hemisphere, including Canada...

...“And when it comes to the oil we import from other nations, we can partner with neighbours like Canada, Mexico and Brazil, which recently discovered significant new oil reserves, and with whom we can share American technology and know-how.”

You're kind enough to share technology with us that will let us send our oil to you faster and cheaper than ever before. How sweet! Well, since the technology used to extract oil from the Alberta tar sands was invented by a Canadian and not an American, I think we're doing juuuust fine on our own, thanks.

Many Democrats concerned about climate change, however — most notably congressman Henry Waxman of California — have expressed serious misgivings about Alberta’s oilsands. They’ve branded it “dirty oil” because mining the oilsands requires more energy than conventional oil operations, resulting in higher greenhouse gas emissions...

...Republicans, on the other hand, are more eager to embrace Canadian oil. Obama’s speech came on the eve of a hearing being held Thursday in the House of Representatives, now controlled by Republicans, entitled: “Rising Oil Prices and Dependence on Hostile Regimes: The Urgent Case for Canadian Oil.”

Made all the more urgent by the fact that Canada is about a year away from inking a free trade deal with the European Union, the folks whose oil wells in the North Sea will soon be in decline and who are getting tired of being held over a barrel by the Russians. They'll be more than happy to buy our 'dirty oil' if you don't want it. And if the Tories get back in and sign a free trade deal with India...

Listen to the bells, Uncle Sam: they toll for thee. The days of artificially cheap oil will soon be naught but a memory.

Because I'm not laughing!

Disney bringing Miss Marple to the big screen

Disney is not making a period movie, however, but is looking do a contemporary version with an edge. It has commissioned a script from Mark Frost, who is best known for co-creating the landmark TV series "Twin Peaks" with David Lynch.

So now Disney wants a cut of the pie, and to get it they plan to turn her into a totally different character? No wonder the copyright holders are saying the deal isn't done yet--they realized what a train wreck of a movie it would be.

“Why don’t they just invent a new character? Then they can have their cheap fun and leave me and my creations alone.” ~Agatha Christie
