Now I really can't eat. My top front teeth just go down on the bottom wire thanks to a slight overbite. Everything I eat for the next two years is going to have to be liquid, minced, or mashed. Or not; I'll probably starve to death after only three months...

just eat liquid/mashed foods for a while, and Wild Turkey gargles...

ps, don't get the 86 version. You need every bit of alcohol to numb that mouth. also, do not swallow.

Does Canadian Club work as effectively?

How does the bite change? Do the front teeth begin to change their bite angle that quickly?
From: [identity profile] mammallamadevil.livejournal.com
it's gradual. Usually with most orthodontia, you go back once a month or every six weeks and they adjust it. The first two days are hell. After that, it's okay other than the occasional wire issues and the wax will fix that. BraceAid is useless on me.

Canadian Club will work somewhat, but I've found that Wild Turkey has the best effect...

we're here for ya!

I found Yukon Jack preferable taste wise and proof wise.

Did you ever have any of the brackets come loose from a tooth, or did those stay fast throughout?
From: [identity profile] mammallamadevil.livejournal.com
if you don't drink sodas, you shouldn't have that problem. I lost a couple but I had braces in the mid eighties but I'll bet they've made improvements in what holds 'em in. I got them off the day before I graduated from high school...(grin)

Never have, never plan to. I tend to avoid drinks that can be used to clean bloodstains on the Interstate ;P

Ah, just in time for school pictures!

I had a few break loose.

It was usually those mounted on teeth needing to be 'pulled outwards' and therefore had a bit more tension on them.
Hopefully, they have a better cement now...

Wasn't a problem for me. Better cement, or just more caution on my part? No telling.

thanks. I was helping do some layout for Mr. Holbrook and thought it would make a good LJ icon.

Here's the strip:

Had 'em myself for three years. It will go quicker than you might think, and you'll learn to eat with them sooner than you think.

There are plenty of softer foods you'll be able to eat too, and they're not all that bad tasting either. Try going to a natural food store, if you have one nearby... you'd be surprised how many there are now compared to 25 years ago when I had mine done.

I lived on hard boiled eggs and quesadillas...

during "that time of the month". Usually my dad would take me and we'd head straight to get junk food before the pain set in...(grin)

Both my kids had them. Your body *will* accomodate, but if you continue to have problems eating after a few days, go back and ask them what they can do to give you a useful bite.

In the meantime, applesauce and spaghetti and Ramen are useful for those two-days-after-adjustment periods. When my lip got torn up, everything I ate for a month went through a blender so I could suck it up a straw. It was OK for oatmeal, the black bean sauce chicken pureee was, ah, memorable.

Good luck1
