Read no further if you aren't a computer geek.
Tried to install Mandrake Linux (or Mandriva, as it's called now) on my laptop. It froze when trying to repartition my hard drive. Lovely. So I cancelled that and used my Ubuntu installation CD. It installed well enough, but it doesn't read the wireless signal from my computer (Intel 2200BG). There's a program I can install to use it, though, so I'll install that. If that fails, I'll just wipe out and reinstall Windows and install Mandriva on my other laptop on its own and play around with that for a while. One good Linux thing happened today, though. I found a family tree program that might open files from the Windows program we use. If it works seamlessly enough, I'll be able to get my mother on Linux, and that will be one less computer I'll have to monitor spyware and viruses on. If only Lexmark printer/scanners worked with Linux...
My laptop hard drive is warm enough to fry an egg. I think I'll give it a few hours off.
