Took my car into the dealer because it was acting up. The service engine light is on, and when we filled up with gas yesterday, the gauge dropped down to completely empty. Turns out that the mechanism that sends information on the gas level to the gauge isn't working, and the gas has to be around a quarter of a tank to fix it.
My week just gets better and better, doesn't it?

Date: 2005-09-08 04:25 am (UTC)My old Grand Am had gas gauge issues. It was like that when I bought it, and I didn't realize it. If the gas dropped below a quarter-tank on the gauge, it would stall out and die. Meaning, it ran out of gas. But for some reason, the needle wouldn't poke above "F". Which, led for me to run out of gas and stuck at the tender age of 17.
And then (after I totalled the Cavy), Dad took the 'Am (which they'd kept for me while I used the "alternate" car) to get it fixed. He didn't know about the faulty gauge (wish I'd have warned him), and thus HE ran out of gas! X3
Ah, the hell of ancient cars. Still, my kids will be LUCKY if they get anything even as recent as a 2002. (And we're talking at least 25 years into the future) I suffered with old cars, they suffer with old cars. And they'll have to walk to school. Uphill. Both ways.
>:D *evil*
Well... what I wonder is... how can you tell when there's only a quarter tank? *shudder*
*hugs* I'm sorry... hopefully you can get it fixed soon!

Hopefully, it'll work from time to time!
I'm not really sure why it stopped working. It's only two years old (yeah, I'm a spoiled mama's boy, probably of the same callibre as the ones you just got rid of; I'm not afraid to admit it.)
